Lawrence H. "Larry" Sykes

Lawrence H. "Larry" Sykes, age 74, of Kirby, died Sunday, February 10, 2013. He was born on September 12, 1938, at Texarkana, Arkansas, the son of Henry Andrew Sykes and Betty Ann Alexander Sykes. On February 14, 2002, he was married to Myrtle Lee Langley. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Methodist in his faith. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association; a Ham radio operator; enjoyed woodworking; was an expert craftsman, always enjoying working with his hands; and he had a great passion for animals. His greatest love in life was his family, who he always enjoyed spending time with. He is survived by his wife, Lee Sykes of Kirby; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry, Jr. and Dena Sykes, Jimmy Scott Sykes and Tony Sykes, all of Crestview, Florida, and Steven Sykes of Daisy; one daughter, Lynda Sykes of Little Rock; one stepson, Jerry Keiffer and his wife, Nancy, of Wilton; eleven grandchildren; one sister, Vickie Sykes of California; his best friend, Al Vaughn of Glenwood; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held by the family at 4:00 PM, Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Abundant Faith Church in Glenwood with Pastor Richard Mohlenhoff officiating.
