Lela Vernice O'Neal

Lela Vernice O'Neal, age 92, of Caddo Gap, died Monday, October 1, 2012. She was born on February 8, 1920, at Fancy Hill, the daughter of Francis H. Ledbetter and Ava Duke Ledbetter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Dale Diggs; her second husband, John O'Neal; four brothers, Loyd Ledbetter, Doyce Ledbetter, Clifton Ledbetter and Gerald Ledbetter; one sister, Vela Pounds; and two sons-in-law, Colby Engel and George Austin. She enjoyed quilting and working cross-word puzzles. She was the true meaning of a wonderful woman who never had anything but kind words for everyone. She loved her family with all her heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Loretta Engel of Marion, Iowa, Freddie Austin of Caddo Gap and Jean and Jim Pinson of Daisy; a very, very special son, Lynn Ashford; six grandchildren, Ricky Engel, Steven Engel, Johnny Austin, Deerinda "DeeDee" Senn, Randy Pinson and Rhonda Green; nine great-grandchildren, Candace Pope, Hannah Engel, George Hancock, Tyler Hancock, Kailey Pinson, Kody Pinson, Drew Hill, Brianna Hill and Joey Green; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jessie Ledbetter of Hollywood; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lonetta and James Lock of Glenwood, Christine and Bobby Herron of Curtis and Velma Laasch of Portland, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012, in the Nelson Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Lock officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
