Loy Jay "Red Beard" Barrett

Loy Jay “Red Beard” Barrett, age 75, of Newhope, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

He was born on August 24, 1945, in Kirby, the son of Thomas Jacob Barrett and Vercie Viola Garner Barrett. On March 12, 1964, he was married to, Patricia Ann Fant Barrett. He was preceded in death by his parents; and twelve siblings.

For many years he worked in logging as a truck driver and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Loy was a simple man, who lived a simple life but always had a smile on his face and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, who he dearly loved with all his heart. He enjoyed family get togethers and will always be remembered for giving his famous “bear hugs”. Loy will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Barrett of Lodi; his daughter, Tammy Barrett Fant of Newhope; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Melissa Barrett, Donnie and Pam Barrett and Russell and McCharla Barrett, all of Kirby; five grandchildren, Stephanie Forrest and her husband, Steven, Alexis Barrett, Joey Porter, Nathaniel Porter and Kimberly Barrett; five great-grandchildren, Rylee, Rayah and Ryder Forrest, Charlee Logan Porter, and one on the way, Mariah Grace Edwards; one brother and sister-in-law, Floy Lay and Dora Barrett of Amity; two sisters, Fay Norris of Amity and Ruby Porter of Glenwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date to be announced.

Memorials may be made in memory of Loy to Kindred Hospice, 2212 Malvern Avenue, Suite 3, Hot Springs, Arkansas, 71901.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Glenwood.
