Lucille Ponder Varnell

August 6, 1926 — April 16, 2021

Lucille Ponder Varnell, age 94, of Norman, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 16, 2021.

She was born on August 6, 1926, in Caddo Gap, the daughter of Joseph Alvin Ponder and Etta J. Driggers Ponder. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, James Ponder, Gary Roberts and Randy Roberts; four siblings, Ray Ponder, Dale Ponder, Nelix “Sis” Waggoner and Billy Jo Scott; and one son-in-law, Kelly Delk.

She was a member of the Caddo Gap Baptist Church and was employed with Mount Ida Footwear for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, canning, feeding her hummingbirds and especially enjoyed drinking her coffee while visiting with friends and family. She will always be remembered for her famous Christmas candy and her carrot cakes, that her grandchildren would usually fight over who was taking one home with them. She lovingly made quilts for every grandchild, for their marriages, or for a special occasion they were celebrating.

Lucille truly loved her family and her greatest joy in life was cooking for, taking care of and spending time with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and cherished her.

She is survived by her two sons, Rick Roberts of Norman and Charles Roberts of Wisconsin; her daughter, Myra Delk of Homosassa, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Iva Ponder of Norman; her sister-in-law, Louise Ponder of Norman; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

The family will hold a graveside memorial service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 24, 2021, in the Mountain Home Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Glenwood.
