Margaret Sue Smith

January 20, 1937 — November 24, 2020

Margaret Sue Smith, age 83, of Glenwood, entered the pearly gates Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

Sue, as she was known by her family and friends, was born January 20, 1937 in Mansfield, Missouri where she lived the country life. Sue was the daughter of Virgil Coday and Thelma Epps Coday. She moved to Arizona in her teen years after her parents divorced. There she met the love of her life, Billy Smith. They were married January 28, 1955. Billy and Sue loved to hunt and fish in the beautiful White Mountains of Arizona. They were the proud parents of two daughters, Billie Sue and Mary Jean. The family attended a small Baptist Church in Pinetop, Arizona where Sue accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. She enjoyed singing in the choir and working with children. Sue worked many years in Arizona in banking and as a pharmacy tech. Billy and Sue moved their family to Glenwood, Arkansas in 1974 where Sue again returned to the country life raising pigs, chickens and registered Hereford cows on their beautiful farm. They were married forty-four years before Billy's home-going in 1999. Sue remained on the farm nineteen years after his passing. She had to leave the beautiful farm in 2018 because of declining health. She spent the last two years of her life in the loving care of the wonderful staff at Four Seasons in Benton, Arkansas. She was affectionately known there as "Sue-Sue", "Little Mama” and “Lady Bug”.

Sue was a member of First Baptist Church Glenwood. She worked in several areas of the children's department throughout the years. Her greatest joy, in her later years, was working in the AWANA children's program. Sue loved to hear the children memorizing Bible verses and was a faithful worker for more than ten years.

Sue leaves behind two daughters, Billie Sue (Denny) Wright and Mary Jean (Terry) Cowart; three grandchildren, Joshua (Meredith) Wright, Melissa (Shane) Blalock, Leah (Jordan) Lillich, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

In her words, "I worked hard, had a good life, a wonderful husband and a wonderful family!" Her family will miss her dearly and look forward to their heavenly reunion.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, November 28th, at the Glenwood Cemetery.
