Mary Kathryn Herron

Mary Kathryn Herron, age 86, of Point Cedar, died Monday, September 25, 2017. She was born on June 12, 1931 in Point Cedar, the daughter of Hiram Powell and Florence Hunt Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard Melvin Herron; her parents; and one brother, Robert Powell. Mary Kathryn was a member of Valley Missionary Baptist Church and the Point Cedar Volunteer Fire Department. She retired after working for many years for the Dallas Police Department as a computer analysist. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Che Herron of Houston, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Cherry and Michael Sossamon of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Courtney and Barton West, Sr., Whitney and Josh Warmack, Hillary and Dr. Will Meador, Caitlin Herron, Austen Herron and Regan Herron; four great-grandchildren, Barton West, Jr., Delaney West, Winnifred Warmack and Harriet Meador; one brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Rosie Powell, Sr. of Point Cedar; two sisters, Fern Grant and Barbara Powell, both of Point Cedar; a very special niece, Chaundelle and Wally Burch of Point Cedar; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Bro. Will Wesson officiating. Interment will be in Morning Star Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Gordon Powell, Jr., Austen Herron, Wally Burch, Michael Sossaman, Jerry Burke and William King. The family would like to thank Cheryl King for the special care that was shown to Mary Kathryn for many years. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
