Morris H. "Buddy" Voan

Morris H. “Buddy” Voan, age 87, of Norman, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

He was born on July 10, 1933, in Oakhurst, Texas, the son of Mark Jake Voan and Mary Zelma Durdin Voan. On November 24, 1955, he was married to the true love of his life, Charline “Mamaw” Voan, who preceded him in death on May 17, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary Voan; his parents; and his sister, Ruth Moore.

He was a member of the Norman First Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Navy, and a member of the Black Springs Masonic Lodge #543, where he was a Master Mason. Buddy volunteered for many organizations throughout the years, served as the President of the Montgomery County Fair Association for over twenty-five years, and was a member of the Arkansas Fair Managers Association, also serving on the Board of Directors. He worked for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and was a volunteer fireman in both Norman and Little Rock.

Above all of Buddy’s many accomplishments, his family was by far his greatest, and he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, who loved his family with all his heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Morris H. “Buddy” Voan, Jr. and Candy of Texarkana, Arkansas, Cheryl and Wayne McClard of Bismarck, Chuck Voan and Janice of Rockwall, Texas and Lisa and Wayne Simpson of Norman; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Jean Voan of Shephard, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 26, 2020, in the Glenwood First Baptist Church with Bro. Doug Wills and Bro. Robbie Loudermilk officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood.

Social distancing directives will be in place with no more than 100 persons at any one time in the funeral home chapel, avoidance of physical contact and all attendees 10 years of age or older must be wearing a face covering to enter.

Interment will be in the Black Springs Cemetery with Masonic rites presented by the Black Springs Masonic Lodge #543 and military honors presented by the United States Navy Honors team. .

Pallbearers will be Neil Simpson, Adam Kennedy, John Hackney, Jacob Cogburn, Justin Voan, Logan Voan, Trey Voan and Chris Voan.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Jewell, Loyd Smitty Smith, the members of the Norman First Baptist Church men’s Sunday School class, Lela Rogers, Dr. Shawna Lucas, Dr. Ashley Jenkins, the nurses and staff of CHI St. Vincent-Hot Springs 4 West/ICU and his special “sour patch” nurse, Alisha McKinney.
