Neuman Riley Qualls

Neuman Riley Qualls, age 96, of Mount Ida, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020.

He was born on September 16, 1924 in Story, Montgomery County, Arkansas, the son of Riley W. Qualls and Mary Lucinda Reed Qualls. On October 16, 1948, he was married to Oxie Dell Potter. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, his brothers, Lawarence Qualls, Glover Qualls, and Truman Qualls, and his sisters, Edna Kilby, Dovie Kilby, and Mazie Anderson.

He grew up in the Story area and served in the US Navy from 1944 to1945 during WWII. He and his wife raised their family in the Alamo community while Neuman worked for the US Forest Service. After retiring, he moved to Mount Ida and had been living in the Montgomery County Assisted Living facility since 2014. He was a lifetime member of the Muddy Creek Church of God in Story and was one of the original founders of the church’s associated YOLAWIGO Youth Camp.

He is survived by his son, Dewayne Qualls of Atkins, his daughter, Debra (Floyd) Spencer of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his granddaughters, Amanda Carter of Hector and Melissa Spencer (Raj Basu) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, his great-granddaughter, Aahana Basu, and his great-grandson, Avik Basu.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in the Muddy Creek Church of God with Bro. Josh Harper officiating.

Interment will be in Reed Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
