Ralph Barentine, age 79, of Malvern, died Sunday, September 2, 2012. He was born on August 18, 1933, at Kirby, the son of James Madison Barentine and Artie Yeargan Barentine. On January 8, 1988, he was married to Jean Westcott. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Barentine; three brothers, Noel Barentine, Okal Barentine, Jr. and Kenneth Barentine; and one sister, Lema Sue O'Neal. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a police officer for sixteen years; a roofer; and was Missionary Baptist in his faith. He is survived by his wife, Jean Barentine of Malvern; one son, Glen Allen Barentine of Hot Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Kay and Ben Arnett of Ashdown; one stepson, Jimmy Golden and his wife, Sandy, of Malvern; one stepdaughter, Pamela Kay Wood and her husband, Ben, of Malvern; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorma Faye Mehling of Glenwood; one sister-in-law, Betty Barentine of Glenwood; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 5, 2012, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Raymond Dees officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Military honors will be provided by the Thaddeus H. Carraway VFW Post #2278 and the United States Army. Pallbearers will be Jeff White, Tracy White, Jackie White, Billy Golden, Steve Golden and Todd Barentine. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Barentine, Jimmy O'Guinn, Chris White and the doctors, nurses and staff of the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital.
