Roy Edward Crane

February 20, 1947 — April 5, 2021

Roy Edward Crane, 74, of Royal, AR, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. He was born on February 20, 1947, in Penn Yan, New York, to Geraldine (Kapaschut) and Edward Crane.

Roy was an Army veteran and was stationed in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, in the ‘60s. Previous to his military service, he was raised in Penn Yan, NY, by a hard-working single mother along with three siblings. As a youth, Roy held various jobs so he would have two pennies to rub together and to help his mother when he could. According to his mother, he also participated in numerous shenanigans and kept her on her toes. He only completed the 9th grade but was proud to earn his GED as a young adult. After finding his way to Hot Springs, AR, in his late twenties, he began working at Hall Business Machines and became an excellent typewriter and word processor repair man. Roy was well-known for his quick mind and ability to putter with and repair just about anything. He stayed in the business machine field, eventually moving to S and S Business Machines where he remained until computers replaced the machines on which he was so skilled at working. During this time, Roy met his wife of forty years, Linda Crane, who passed in 2018. The two enjoyed traveling together, growing roses, and owning dogs. Roy was an animal lover, and his dogs meant everything to him. His most recent dog passed away a month ago.

Before Roy married Linda, he had been married twice and had other serious romantic relationships. Roy has six children, all now adults in their forties and early fifties. From oldest to youngest are James (Jay) Edington of South Carolina, Missy Angelle Vaughn of Louisiana, Chrissy Greenwood Owen of Arkansas, Cyle Crane of New York, Nannette Crane-Post of Arkansas, and Aaron Ball of Arkansas.

Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Crane; mother, Geraldine Jaeger; father, Edward Crane; brother, David Crane. He is survived by his children and his sister, Dawn Covert of New York, and his brother Steven Crane, of Arkansas and the Philippines, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Roy was well-loved by his friends and his favorite past-time in his later life was to ride four wheelers, spend the summers hanging out at the Big Mazarn Creek behind his house, and work on small projects around the house. He was always creating or fixing something! His friends knew they could count on him to help with pretty much anything. Good friends Rudy and Sherron Shuffield and Pete Ferguson will miss him greatly.

Per Roy’s request, there will be no memorial service. His ashes will be combined with his wife Linda’s ashes and scattered in a place well-loved by both. Any donations in memorial may be made to one of the area’s animal shelters.
