Sammy Burke

Sammy Burke, aged 77, of Pearcy, died Saturday, May 9, 2015. He was born on December 25, 1937 at Glenwood, the son of Pete Burke and Effie Boone Burke. After his discharge from the United States Navy, Sammy enlisted in the Army Reserves where he continued to serve until his retirement. He was the owner and operator of Sam Burke's Excavation for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Burke of Pearcy; his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Russell Godwin of Hot Springs; two grandsons, Sanders Roark and Rusten Godwin; his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Patsy Burke of Glenwood; his sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Carl Vaughn of Hot Springs; his special in-laws from the Holcombe family, Thresa, Joyce, Vernon, Danny and Gayla; and his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 14, 2015, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. John McAnally officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sonny Prince, Mike Prince, Billy Burke, Shannon Vaughn, David Heindl and Randy Sorrells. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Haggard, Ricardo Young, Stanley LaFever, Steve Dennis and all of the AA members who celebrated with him when he received his token for 32 years of sobriety.
