Sarah Vernell "Mam-Maw" White

Sarah Vernell “Mam-Maw” White, age 91, of Langley, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021.

She was born on June 25, 1929, in Athens, the daughter of Jewell W. Hunter and Pearl L. Golden Hunter. On July 11, 1946, she was married to the love of her life, Dewey “Fletcher” White, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Billie Jo Smith.

In her earlier years, she attended the Langley United Methodist Church. Vernell had a great passion for animals, particularly her pet fur-babies. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, traveling, and many of her most memorable and fun trips were those she would take on Greyhound buses. She was lovingly known as “Mam-Maw”, and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Mam-Maw will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, James White of Langley, Jerry and Diane White of Kirby, Valerie Jo White of Hot Springs, Dana F. and Debbie White of Umpire and Jim and Stacy White of Langley; five grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Jeromy Brewer, Jeanna and James Mack, Jaydan White, Jacy White and Anna White; five great-grandchildren, Jolie, Jena, Jolena, Prestan and Jerad; one brother, Jewell Lee Hunter of Langley; her special friend, who was always there when she was needed, Barbara Hunter of Langley; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 11, 2021, in the Athens Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Lock officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be Jerry White, Dana White, Jim White, Tracy Hunter, Jeromy Brewer, Prestan Mack and Jaydan White.

Honorary pallbearer will be James F. White.
