Shirley "Puggy" Spears

Shirley “Puggy” Spears, age 74, of Amity, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

She was born on February 19, 1946 in Murfreesboro, the daughter of Bennett Jewel Cogburn and Octavia Gatlin Cogburn. On December 27, 1973, she was married to Marlon Joe Spears who preceded her in death on October 11, 2007. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Theresea Rhodes and Shelia Hancock; and her parents.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, fishing and hunting. A wonderful mother and wife, she loved being with her family.

She is survived by five children, Dewayne Spears and Philip Spears, Sr., both of Amity, Carol Hitchens of Hot Springs, Tommy Joe Spears of Arkadelphia and Mark Spears of Hot Springs; nineteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth “Dankey” Cogburn, and Granville Cogburn, both of Glenwood, and L. D. Cogburn of Norman; three sisters, Lois Wilhite of Glenwood, Doris Rhodes of Kirby and Lee Ellen Standridge of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 11, 2021, in the Coker Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Coker Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Social distancing directives will be in place with no more than 66% total occupancy at any one time in the funeral home and avoidance of physical contact. Everyone, 10 years of age or older, must be wearing a mask or face covering at all times.

Pallbearers will be Mac Davis, Hector Santillan, Dustin Spears, Philip Spears, Jr., James Spears and John Hancock.
