Travis D. Smith, age 78, of Amity, died Wednesday, October 8, 2014. He was born on September 13, 1936, at Mountain Pine, the son of Paul Edmond Smith and Fern Harvey Smith. On September 17, 1960, he was married to Pattie Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Hal Edward Smith. Travis was a Christian in his faith and a Baptist. After graduating from Amity High School in 1954, he attended Arkansas Tech for one year before serving in the United States Army for two years. In 1995, he retired from the U. S. Postal service where he had served as Amity postmaster for 17 years. Travis enjoyed flying private planes, riding motorcycles, gardening and discussing history and guns with his grandsons. He loved restoring antiques and "tinkering". He is survived by his wife, Pattie Smith of Amity; his son, Stuart Smith of Bismarck; his daughter and son-in-law, Tara and John Jones of Glen Rose; three grandsons, Levi Jones, Isaac Jones and Solomon Smith; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Alan Dwayne and Karen Smith of Palestine, Texas and Randall and Betty Smith of Amity; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Mount Tabor Community Church with Bro. Joe Ray Short and Bro. Ed Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held Friday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Scott Smith, Brandon Smith, Levi Jones, Isaac Jones, Solomon Smith and Elwood Massey. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
