V L Walker

V L Walker, age 89, of Caddo Gap, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was born on April 10, 1926 in Oil Trough, Arkansas, a farm boy and the youngest of six children born to Davis Walker and Lela Lee Walker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Lee Walker; his parents; three brothers, Orville Walker, Ernest Walker and Marcus Dean Walker; and two sisters, Dollie McGraw and Lucille Warren. On April 10, 1965, he married a young woman from the hills, Florene Miller. He went to NYA School and became a welder, working at 17 in the shipyards of Portland, Oregon. In 1944, he was drafted into the Army where he served until the end of World War II. He re-enlisted in the Army in 1947 and eventually enlisted into the Air Force where he retired in 1969 as an aircraft mechanic and flight crew chief. His Air Force career took him to service in Vietnam in 1966. After retirement from the military, he worked as a school bus mechanic for Caddo Hills Public Schools for five years and Milchem, Inc. for twelve years. His travels took him to fourteen countries and over forty states. He loved to tinker with anything to make it better, operate his backhoes and just keep busy. He is survived by his wife, Florene Walker of Caddo Gap; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David McSchooler of Caddo Gap; and his nieces and nephews.
