Velton "Pete" Harris

June 25, 1932 — June 13, 2013

Velton "Pete" Harris, age 80, of Amity, died Thursday, June 13, 2013. He was born on June 25, 1932, at Alpine, the son of Harlous Alvery Harris and Ethel Annie Garner Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry Don Harris; three brothers, Jessie Harris, Billy Joe Harris and James "Sonny" Harris; and two sisters, Juanita Price and Willa Dean Lathrop. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Foreign Wars, serving in Korea. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding around in his truck. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved. He is survived by his companion, Vahnita Spears of Amity; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Ann and Steve Beth of Nashville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Roy Gene Harris, Richard Glen and Lynn Harris and Sylvester Ray Harris, all of Amity; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Carolyn and Floyd Lunsford of Pine Bluff, Annie Sue and Ray Emerton and Norma Jane and Billy Sorrells, all of Amity; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 17, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Jerry Fagan officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment with military honors will be in the Jones Cemetery in Amity under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be David Godsey, Lester Harris, Stevie Harris, Charlie Wooten, Micheal Smith and Brian Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Lunsford and Billy Sorrells.
