Wayne Hopper

Wayne Hopper, age 76, of Pencil Bluff, died Thursday, November 21, 2013. He was born on September 27, 1937 in Lubbock, Texas, the son of Adolph Hopper and Hazel Creel Hopper. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Leon Pierce and Jean and George Barrett. He was a lifelong homebuilder, former owner of Hopper Ready Mix and Action Realty and a broker for Pride Realty. He was co-founder, president and coach of the Tri-County Youth League and served on the Oden/Pencil Bluff Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. He was a former member of the Oden School Board and served 17 years with the Montgomery County Nursing Home Board where one of his proudest accomplishments was the construction of the new nursing home and assisted living facilities. He was a member of the Soil Conservation District and president of the Pencil Bluff Cemetery Association, which he helped organize. A member of the Pencil Bluff Baptist Church, he worked with the mission's team of the Caddo River Baptist Association and the Upper Ouachita River Association. He served 6 years with the Arkansas Air National Guard. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Patsy Dillard Hopper; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Lisa Hopper; two grandchildren, Megan and Dalton Hopper; and his great-granddaughter, Isabelle Thomas, all of Pencil Bluff. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 24, 2013 in the Pencil Bluff Baptist Church with Bro. David Rouse and Bro. Kyle Cowart officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 PM until service time, at the church. Interment will be in the Pencil Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Mitchell Lawrence, Richard Pierce, Barry Norman, Robin Singleton, Stan Miller and Lloyd Dunaway. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Fryar, Arvil "John Pink" Hill, the Older Adult Sunday School Class, the staff of the Montgomery County Nursing Home and Dena Cole.
