Ed "Pop" Drye

July 29, 1939 — October 3, 2012

Ed "Pop" Drye, age 73, of Newhope, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012. He was born on July 29, 1939 at Gould, Arkansas, the son of Roy Delbert Drye and Vinnie Gertrude Roberson Drye. On July 6, 1956, he was married to Becky McGinnis. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Conner Mercer; and four brothers, Delbert Drye, R.M. Drye, John Drye and Paul Drye. Ed attended Midway Church and had worked in construction since he was sixteen years old. Through employment at Disneyland, he learned different painting techniques and later worked as a carpenter. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and building things in his shop. Ed cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Becky Drye of Newhope; four sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Johnna Drye of Hawaiian Gardens, California, David and Barbara Drye of Alpine, James and Audrey Drye and Roy and Kay Drye, all of Newhope; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Delton Launius of Newhope; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bernice and Ace Kelley and Bertha Ann Scott, all of Reno, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church at Newhope with Bro. George Donaldson, Jr. and Bro. Kenny Fant officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Young, Charlie Smith, David Drye, Tim Young, Ronnie Launius, Josh Kizer and Waylan Kersey. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
