Erma Smith, age 84, of Newhope, died Saturday, August 24, 2013. She was born on March 9, 1929 near Newhope, the daughter of Roy Jester and Stella O'Neal Jester. On June 10, 1950, she was married to Kemmel Smith who preceded her in death on January 6, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Diana Smith; and three brothers, Kelsie Jester, Lloyd Jester and Eugene Jester. A retired cook, she was famous for her homemade pies and her dressing. She attended the Newhope Free Will Baptist Church, loved being with her family and taking care of her cats. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Don Smith, Donna and Larry Webb and David and Kellie Smith, all of Newhope; five grandchildren, Michelle McCauley, Dana Wright, Crystal Webb, Chris Webb and Danielle Smith; three great-grandchildren, Robin Fatherree, Cassi McCauley and Laci Wright; four great-great-grandchildren, Madison Wright, Dyllon Wright, Collin Fatherree and Claire Fatherree; two brothers, Earl Jester of Michigan and Jerel Jester of Indiana; three sisters, Helen Clampitt of Indiana, Betty Shepard of Dierks and Ruby Winkleman of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in the Newhope Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Vaughn and Bro. Kenny Fant officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be John Young, Keith Tedder, Russell Young, Dennis Jester, Terrell Shepard and Clifton Ward. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
