Wavanee Whisenhunt

Wavanee Whisenhunt, age 77, of Kirby, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011. She was born on July 21, 1933, at Kirby, the daughter of John Barentine and Nettie Crow Barentine. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ronald D. Whisenhunt, Sr., on November 16, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lori Lynn Whisenhunt; her sister, Lavern Cantrell; and her brother, Emil Barentine. She was a member of the Caney Valley Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a former church pianist and taught Sunday school. She was retired from Kirby Public Schools. She dearly loved spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's school activities. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Ronnie and Sherry Whisenhunt, David and Kristi Whisenhunt and Lisa and Richard Ray, all of Kirby; eight grandchildren, Lucas Whisenhunt, Lance Whisenhunt, Lee Whisenhunt, Kay Whisenhunt, Mandi Whisenhunt, Ali Whisenhunt, Derek Ray and Lauren Ray; one nephew, Johnny Cantrell of Amity; and two nieces, Wilma Blair of Hot Springs and Jan Klein of Phoenix, Arizona. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 8, 2011, in the Caney Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Howell and Bro. Robbie Horne officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Mike Haggard, Dewight Reid, Kevin Golden, Sam Davis, Brian Mounts and Robbie Funderburk. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Caney Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Ronald and Wavanee Whisenhunt Scholarship Fund, c/o Jeff Alexander, Kirby Public Schools, P.O. Box 9, Kirby, Arkansas, 71950. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
